Scattering of Ashes

A scattering of ashes ceremony is an occasion on which a person’s ashes are placed somewhere permanently,. As long as there is legal permission then this can take place in most places and is part of the laying to rest of the physical remains. It can be a very powerful and a moving occasion with as many or as few people as you want.  Often it is immediate family and close friends. The ceremony can take place anytime after the cremation and can also be a chance for someone who wanted to be at the cremation but for whatever reason couldn't be. I recently took part in a scattering ceremony of both parents. The father died 10 years before the mother but the children wanted both parents to be scattered together. The ceremony was a beautiful one, with all the siblings and grandchildren present set in a beautiful backdrop of the highlands of Scotland.
